Covid-19 Vehicle Precautions & Safety Tips

As communities across the world take more and more steps to limit the spread of COVID-19, questions regarding which precautions are the best to follow are increasing. Now that more businesses are slowly opening back up, curfews and shelter-in-home ordinances are being lifted, there will be more people out on the streets and stores. This means, that the probability of contracting the sickness is believed to be even higher now. Roughly, it is currently in the hands of the citizens to take their own precautions and decide whether the risk of leaving home is worth the possible exposure to
COVID-19.

If you absolutely must go out, or simply are not concerned by COVID-19, it is still very important to practice safety precautions in public, not only for yourself, but for everyone around you as well. Here are a few safety measures you could follow, at stores or while driving, to do your part in decreasing any further spread of COVID-19.

  • Postpone any non-essential trips and tasks to minimize your exposure to others.
  • Using your vehicles' climate control to continually circulate fresh air throughout your vehicle. This actually helps in cleaning and reducing possible contaminates in your vehicles air.
  • Limiting the number of passengers in your vehicle. Practicing social-distancing is a great way to prevent any further spread. The less people around you, the better.
  • Following the point from above, if you do have someone if your vehicle, disinfect the seats, handles, or anything they could have touched after they have left.
  • Wash your hands/use sanitizer before and after entering your vehicle. This will ensure that there are no contaminates entering or exiting your vehicle.
  • Using face masks in public are crucial! Many businesses are actually requiring their employees and customers to use a face mask while visiting their business.
  • Wash your face masks frequently, if you do not dispose them, to ensure that no bacteria or viruses stay on it.
  • This applies for gloves as well. While wearing gloves, it is very important to not touch your face, eyes or mouth as there could be contaminates on the gloves as well. If you plan to reuse your gloves, please make sure to completely sanitize the gloves and your hands before and after each use.
  • Wipe down and sanitize the keypads on ATM's and banks before and after each use.
  • Gas pumps are probably the dirtiest and easiest way for germs and bacteria to transfer, so wipe down and use a cloth/wipe to grab the gas nozzle and sanitize the keypads.
  • Try your best to avoid cash money transactions. Money is very dirty and is not being sanitized when received. If possible, use touch-less payments such as Apple/Samsung pay. If paying by card, make sure you are disinfecting when finished.
  • If you are going out to buy food or any household products in general, many big name-brand businesses, such as HEB or Walmart, offer delivery and curbside services for free during these hard times! There are many options you could go through if your restaurant or store does not deliver, such as Uber Eats, Door Dash, and many more. There are also many similar apps that allow you to order your groceries and other products online and have them delivered right at your door without making any contact with the delivery person.
  • Remove your shoes and disinfect them before entering your home if you got down at any place. Shoes can carry a lot of bacteria and possible contaminates into your home so it is best to sanitize them before entering back into an already disinfected home.

By taking these precautions, we can easily decrease the amount of COVID-19 cases throughout our community. In times like these, being a selfless person is what is going to help control the spread of
COVID-19. We must work together and do our part to keep not only ourselves safe, but all of our loved ones as well.
